This month's newsletter brings you an inspirational quote and a tip on how to increase your speed (with or without practicing speed drills)...

Speed Tip:

This tip requires two guitars. Let's call the first guitar your "practice instrument" and the second guitar your "live instrument." Here's the tip, install heavy gauge (e.g., 010, 013, 017, 026, 036, 046) strings on your practice instrument and lighter gauge (starting with 009) strings on your live instrument. Use your practice instrument (with the heavier gauge strings) to practice scales, licks, drills, songs, etc. while at home. Use your live instrument (with the lighter gauge strings) to run through the song list for your gigs. You'll be amazed at how much easier it is to churn out those solos on stage after practicing on "heavies" at home. It's like riding a bike or driving a car on a gravel and/or pothole filled road and then on a newly paved highway.

NOTE: keep in mind that when changing the string gauge (light to heavy or from heavy to light) on any guitar that you may need to adjust the truss rod afterwards.
